How CCFRI and the Child Care Benefit Work at This Centre
Childcare is one of the biggest lines in a family budget, and the funding programs that help with it can sound more complicated than they are. Two provincial programs can lower what you pay at Fleetwood Children's Centre each month. One happens automatically. The other takes an application. Here is how both work at our centre, in plain language.
First, about our monthly rates
Our monthly rates are not posted on the website. We share current monthly rates on your tour, in writing, with nothing hidden. That way you get the right figure for your child's program, and a chance to ask questions about it face to face.
Everything else about how our fees work comes straight from our parent handbook, and it is on our Fees and Funding page.
CCFRI: the reduction that is already built in
The Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative, or CCFRI, is a provincial program that pays licensed centres to lower what families are charged. Fleetwood Children's Centre is an opted-in CCFRI provider.
For families, that means three things:
- There is nothing to apply for. No forms, no separate application.
- The reduction comes off your bill before you see it. It is built into your monthly fee automatically.
- Part-time care receives a prorated reduction.
The provincial maximums
The Province sets the CCFRI amounts. Under the 2026 to 2027 CCFRI funding guidelines, the provincial maximums for full-time care are:
- Under 36 months: up to $900 off each month, which applies to our Infant and Toddler Program
- 3 years to kindergarten: up to $545 off each month, which applies to our 3 to 5 Years Program
These are provincial figures, not our fees. They describe the most the reduction can be, and the Province can change them. You can read more on the Province's CCFRI page for families.
ACCB: the benefit you apply for
The Affordable Child Care Benefit, or ACCB, is a monthly benefit from the Province for eligible families. It is based on your family's income and size, and it stacks on top of the CCFRI reduction. We accept the ACCB, and the Province pays it directly to us, which lowers what you pay.
Unlike CCFRI, the ACCB takes an application. Eligibility depends on things like family income and size, a reason for care the Province recognizes, such as work, school, looking for work or a medical condition, and BC residency. Our Fees and Funding page sets out the current provincial eligibility details and maximums, and gov.bc.ca always has the latest figures.
How to apply
- 1 Try the Province's estimator first. The ACCB estimator gives you a rough idea of what you could receive.
- 2 Apply online through My Family Services. Ideally, apply before the end of the month your child starts, so the benefit can cover that month.
- 3 Renew every year. We will remind you when your expiry date is coming up.
The Province's ACCB page for families explains the program in full.
What we need from you
Once you are approved, give the Director your ACCB authorization number so we can claim the benefit each month. Until the approval arrives, full fees apply, and any difference is settled once the Province confirms your amount. Please renew before your expiry date so there is no gap.
How the two programs stack
Putting it together, your monthly cost works in three steps:
- 1 Our monthly fee. The full rate for your child's program, shared with you in writing on your tour.
- 2 Minus the CCFRI reduction. Applied automatically, because we are an opted-in provider.
- 3 Minus your ACCB, if you are eligible. Paid to us directly by the Province once you are approved.
What is left is what you pay each month. Because the ACCB depends on your family's circumstances, we cannot give a single figure that fits every family, but we are happy to help you work it out.
Registration and other fee details
A few details apply to every family, separate from the monthly rate:
- Registration fee: a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $150 secures your child's spot.
- Deposit: a 50% non-refundable deposit holds your child's spot and is applied to your first month's fees.
- When fees are due: full fees are due on the 1st of each month.
- Giving notice: withdrawing requires 30 days' written notice from the 1st of the month, or one month's fees in lieu of notice.
Bring your questions, and your forms, to a tour
Funding forms are easier with someone beside you. Bring your questions, or the forms themselves, to your tour, and we will walk you through the fees, the forms and what your family could save. No pressure, no surprises.
